Free Animal Photography Masterclass

The We Animals Photography Masterclass is a self-paced video course built by Jo-Anne McArthur and the We Animals team.

Since 1998, Jo-Anne has worked in over 60 countries documenting the lives of animals trapped in human environments. She has been recognized by Wildlife Photographer of the Year, World Press Photo, and dozens of other international bodies. In 2019, she founded We Animals, a nonprofit organization that advocates for animals through photojournalism.

Photojournalist Jo-Anne McArthur sits between rows of dirty cages confining raccoon dogs at a large fur farm during a nighttime investigation with Anima International. The wire-bottom enclosures house the animals above accumulated waste. Many animals show injuries, infections, blindness and foot deformities, while some pace and others lie motionless. Poland, 2024. This is not a generic photography course, but eight lessons built entirely around the specific craft and responsibility of photographing animals in the places that matter most—and using those images to create real change.

Valued at $45 CAD, we are sharing this course for free with you because we believe that people who want to learn this work are exactly the people we want to stay connected to.

Steve George - Science Ambassador, Plant Based TreatY

The Masterclass is a work of art. I will be recommending it to others I come across who have been inspired by animal photojournalism. The course is so validating and provides purpose and direction to all of us seeking to do more and get closer.

Tom Wollard - Photojournalist

Without having taken this Masterclass I would not be as confident, as prepared, and as determined with animal photojournalism as I am now.
We Animals advocates for animals through photojournalism. Our global investigations expose our complex relationships with animals, create ethical and cultural shifts in society, and empower human capacity for compassion and change.
